What was your motivation to start it?
It was a bit of a fluke actually. I had been getting into web design and that naturally requires you to get websites online. I stumbled across the WordPress blogging platform and it seemed much easier for launching my projects than coding from scratch (which I had some trouble with at that time). After creating a few of my own themes and using them on my sites, I kind of gave up because things weren’t working out and the themes I coded were very clunky. After a few months, I came back to the projects and invested in a few themes and so here I am today.

When did it start to be successful?
I think the real turning point, for me, was the day I dug into the analytics of my website and also ran a report on Quantcast. I realized that the vast majority of my actual visitors were much younger than I originally assumed so then I started shifting my content toward the group of people. After a while, I started to get a response and so I kept at it for a while and it eventually started to pull in a bit of money through Amazon Associates. Before long, I started up Murlu that was sort of a condensed version of what I was learning about blogging and business (since I had been working as a webmaster and developer for the eCommerce site I mentioned, at the time).

How many unique visitors do you receive per day?
For Murlu, I believe the average is about 300 visitors a day, give or take. Although, I do have a larger blog that’s sort of under-the-wraps that pulls in about 1,500 uniques each day. I also have a few niche websites that may do about 30 – 70 a day but I haven’t worked on them all too much in a while.

Where are the traffic comes from?
The vast majority is search engine traffic but some of the posts have been picked up through StumbleUpon which lead to a couple big, prolonged spikes but it’s not something to rely on because the posts that got picked up were quite old. Social has been pretty good too.

How many hours do you work on it daily?
I’m not sure if people want to hear this but I say I probably put about 12 – 15 hours in each day but I wouldn’t exactly call that all “work time”. The “core” amount of work I do is realistically about 5 – 6 hours and then the rest is sort of keeping up with what’s going on, researching and generally browsing the web (or playing video games – ha!). Some days I may only put in an hour just to get a post out; other days, like recently, I put every minute in because I was launching a new website. Don’t be fooled – blogging is a lot of work.

How much do you earn monthly?
Things go up and down but it seems that I’m averaging about $1,200 a month. Sometimes this number can go up to near $2,000 but I’ve also had months where it’s been as low as $600 – things are bouncy especially because of the economy and that it’s summer time.

From where do you get the most Revenue? Google Adsense, Amazon Affiliate or other Networks?
By far, the best is coming from Amazon Associates which I really do love because the product I promote are ones I use so it’s a no brainer that I can create great content around them. It’s what I like to say “go with a hobby” when building a niche website. If you know the product, you can tell people about it without the fluff. Amazon Associates probably pulls in about 60% of the income while the rest is distributed between freelance writing, Adsense and Clickbank.

What do you think is your secret to success?
Truthfully: Momentum.
I know a lot of people that want to rely solely on SEO or content or some kind of push-button system but what it really comes down to is getting something started and pushing at it as hard as possible until it takes on the life of its own – you know, the “tipping point”. The first few months (sometimes years) of a project is going to be hard as hell but then there’s a point where things start to take care of yourself and you just need to keep at it to let it go as far as it can.

What was your motivation to start it?
I have been making a very comfortable living online through affiliate marketing since a couple years. When I was just starting online, I faced a lot of difficulties and found it pretty hard to navigate through all the misleading information that you can find on forums and blogs. For that exact reason, I decided that it was time to give back to the community and to help the people who are just starting their online adventures to make money online.

When did it start to be successful?
Success is a subjective value so I don’t know exactly when Dukeo started being successful. However, I know that it took me only a few months to get noticed and cited on some of the biggest blog in the industry Shoemoney, Zac Johnson, John Chow, Tyler Cruz, Shawn Collins, Missy Ward… (Sorry for the ones I forgot). They all talked about Dukeo at some point, and I will never be able to thank them enough for that. To get their attention, I used a simple strategy, yet never used before in the online marketing industry. How many unique visitors do you receive per day?
Dukeo has seen some traffic spikes as high as 500 unique visitors in a day, but I would say that the average is currently 100-150. It should completely explode by the end of the year as I am working on new tactics to grow my traffic. Stay tuned.

Where are the traffic comes from?
In the early days, most of the traffic was coming from referring sites (being cited by A-list bloggers has its advantages). These days Search Engine traffic is quickly growing and accounts for about 50% of Dukeo’s traffic. Facebook, StumbleUpon and Twitter have been good sources of traffic too.

How many hours do you work on it daily?
This is quite difficult to evaluate the time spent working on the blog alone. I’m working an average of 12 to 14 hours per day, but this includes all my affiliate campaigns, blogs… I don’t have a proper schedule saying that I should work 1 hour on this then 1 hour on that. I have a big to-do list so I just do the first thing on the list and when it’s done I move on to the next thing.

How much do you earn monthly?
From Dukeo my income is between $200 and $300 monthly but this is only a tiny part of my whole income. I can’t disclose exact numbers for my total online income, but I can say that it is in the high 5 figures each month and should hit 6 figures in October or November.

Wow… You mean you will reach the $100,000 line soon? How you can earn so much money?
Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. I should make over $100,000 in October or November. I make it through affiliate marketing, but I can’t go into details about how I make this kind of money. All the tools needed are available online and all it needs is creativity and hard work. Dig in Dukeo’s archives and follow my blog, it’s partly there and I plan to share the rest in the future.

From where do you get the most Revenue on your blog?
All the income on Dukeo is made through direct ad sales (banners). I am lucky enough to have made some connections in the marketing industry pretty fast which allows me to sell my ad space to quality advertisers. Regarding my global income, most of it is made through affiliate programs.

What do you think is your secret to success?
Before working online, I was an architect. What I learned in Architecture School and in my previous jobs is helping me every single day with my online ventures: finding the right person for the right job, quickly analyzing complex situations and systems then improving them, thinking outside of the box… I am no Superman, but I certainly know how to use my strengths to my advantage!
Another one of my “secrets” is that when I develop a blog or a campaign for a client, I never do it for the sole purpose of putting a lot of money in my pockets. My goal is always to give and share: share knowledge with blog readers, give insight from my past experiences, give value to my client’s customers… You’d be amazed by the level of success you can reach by only giving.

I never knew what a Blog was until I saw my friend and college mate, S. Pradeep Kumar Blogging at HellBound Bloggers (HBB) I found it great and thought I must give it a try. I was forced to start to do business online because I was laid off from my 9 to 5 job at an architectural firm. I heard about a lot of people who were making a living online and I thought I could do it too.

The SPI Blog started to take off in 2009. I wanted to give up on the site a lot, but I’m definitely glad I didn’t.

It varies between 6000 and 8000 unique visitors a day, depending on the day of the week – sometimes more.

Referrals from other websites, Google organic search, YouTube, iTunes (from my podcast), direct traffic.

When did it start to be successful?
Almost after one year only I got full interest, and even I got some responsibility. Since I never defined success in terms of money, I always looked into several factors like readers engagement, comments, guest posts and the way my blog moves. I guess after 365 days I was happy by the fact I can help people, I declared myself successful. Our monthly income and traffic report doesn’t fascinate me much, I always target on making each and every commentator and guest author to be satisfied for the purpose they picked my blog.

How many unique visitors generates your blog daily?
We get around 7,000 unique visitors and tens of thousands of pageviews from all over the world. Majority of the visits come from the United States followed by India and United Kingdom.

Where are the traffic comes from?
Search engine and direct visitors are the top ones. They are followed by Social Media (Facebook, StumbleUpon, Twitter and so on) and other referral sites (normally other niche sites and forums).

How many hours do you work on it daily?
I’m not a full time blogger unfortunately, so the time I dedicate seriously depends on my academic works and performance. Per day I may spend around 4-5 hours and it increases according to the projects and loads I get. HBB’s Guest Authors reduced my load and thus the hours I spend on my blog.

I have not revealed my blog’s monthly revenue/report for some reasons, but it is a four figure amount say around 2K$. I use Technorati Media and it pays well for our blog. Majority of HBB’s revenue comes from Sponsored Posts and Direct Advertisement. We optimized our blog well for that. We are not yet organized with Affiliate Marketing, but we’ll step our foot on that one very soon.

What do you think is your secret to success?
The secret to my success will definitely be the way I developed my blog. I accepted criticism and negative feedback, after that people stopped doing that. I believe blogging is like journalism, you can monetize it, but content should be the main aspect. Readers visit your blog for seeing your posts and not your ads. If you want to be successful, do blogging and not money making!

When did you started your Blog project?
I started blogging in 2008 as a hobby blogging and within 2 months I realized that Blogging is a treasure chest and later in 2009, I left my 6 month old full-time job to become a Professional blogger. After 2 years, I can proudly say that I’m a pro blogger.

My passion for Technology and knowledge sharing was the key-point. Later I started reading other successful bloggers blog like Darren, Daniel, Amit Agarwal’s, and realize I can turn my passion into a living. Soon people started commenting and comments played a major role to motivate myself and work better.

In May-june 2009, when I started making from Affiliate marketing, I realized I hit the jackpot. In one of the month, I made almost 2500$ from single affiliate program and that’s the moment, I inclined myself more into affiliate marketing. But in true sense, I would say my blog become successful when it got featured by many newbie bloggers who learned about WordPress from ShoutMeLoud. Doch in den letzten Monaten macht sich der Frust breit. Da ich auf einem meiner Webportale zusätzlich auch gern Layer Werbung einsetze, steht man ja natürlich unter ständiger Kontrolle, was ich auch gut finde. Doch entdecken die LayerAd-Betreiber dann auch unschöne Sache, die ich gar nicht auf meiner Seite haben will: Cookiedropping. Man wird dann natürlich von dem Layer-Anbieter gesperrt und sämtliches Guthaben auf null gesetzt. Heute ist es bei mir wieder passiert.

Gesamtschaden innerhalb der letzten 4 Monate: über 2.000,00 Euro!!!

Wer ist schuld?
Die Advertiser, die bei Adscale ihre Kampagnen einsetzen. Diese können auch sogenannte dynamische Kampagnen einbinden, sprich die Werbung über ihren eigenen Adserver laufen lassen. Für die Cookiespammer ist dies eine lukrative Sache, wenn man bedenkt, dass er für oft nur 15 Cent 1.000 mal den Cookie versteckt neben dem Banner droppen kann. Bei Adscale muss man die Kampagnen zwar manuell freischalten, aber das bringt nix, wenn der Advertiser erst ein paar Tage nach der Freischaltung mit dem Spamming beginnt, tageszeitabhängig oder nur in bestimmten Regionen schaltet.

Was kann man dagegen tun?
Dynamische Kampagnen generell ablehnen! – Ablehnen nicht nur weil man noch andere Werbepartner auf der Seite hat, sondern ablehnen, damit die Besucher nicht vergrault werden und gerade auch wegen der längeren Ladezeit.
